Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book a ceremony area through the council for my elopement at New Farm Park?

For very small elopements, you don’t need to book and reserve a designated area, if you are happy to be flexible (if need be) with where your elopement ceremony will take place on the day.

If you decide not to book an area you acknowledge that there is no guarantee of your preferred spot being available on the date, so having a second preferred spot in mind is recommended. Availability may depend on if another group has chosen the area (which is unlikely on a weekday, but possible) it’s also possible that the garden or park maintenance team may be working on upkeeping the area.

If you prefer, to ensure your favourite space for your ceremony you can of course book the rotunda or another spot through Brisbane City Council. For weddings with 10 guests or more, we do recommend booking New Farm Rotunda or another area, giving you the peace of mind in knowing you have a guaranteed space for your ceremony, and so your guests all know where to head to.

What are the best times for a weekday elopement at New Farm Park?

We recommend mid to late morning for a ceremony (around 10am or 11am – depending on how long you will be having photos together for afterwards). These times work perfectly for heading off afterwards to your lunch celebrations at one of the many nearby New Farm or James Street Prescient restaurants.

Or alternatively, a mid to late afternoon ceremony works well for couples planning a sunset dinner celebration. Don’t forget to allow 30-60minutes after your ceremony has taken place for your elopement photos, prior to your restaurant reservation.

Planning your intimate elopement

When planning your weekday elopement at New Farm Park, consider these tips:

  1. Pre-Marriage Paperwork: It’s important that you are aware that it’s a requirement for getting married in Australia that you meet with one of us (your Celebrant) at least 1 month before the date of your marriage, either via video call or in person to complete and sign the pre-marriage paperwork known as the NOIM form.

Your marriage can then take place 1 month or more from the date that your NOIM form is lodged with us.

  1. Timing: Together we can work out a suitable date, and time for all of us. You may like to choose a time of day that works best for the vibe you are looking for, e.g. Having your ceremony earlier in the day, for a quieter park and relaxed long lunch style celebrations afterwards.
  2. Elopement Décor: We also offer the option of booking one of our stylish and surprisingly affordable elopement ceremony décor packages, to frame you both perfectly as you say ‘I Do’.

Our elopement decor packages are exclusively available to couples that have secured one of us as their Celebrant. In line with our stress-free elopement planning experience, for your convenience our elopement décor service also includes delivery, set up and pack down of your chosen elopement décor package on the day.

  1. Elopement Photography: New Farm Park is a great location for taking advantage of the quieter atmosphere on a weekday for photos together around the park.

We are more than happy to recommend some truly talented elopement photographers, that we have worked with on many occasions.

Typically, our eloping couples will directly book their choice of elopement photographer for 1-2 hours, with the photography commencing at the park just prior to the ceremony commencing.

While most of our eloping couples have a short location photo shoot with their Photographer after their ceremony, sometimes couples choose to have their location photos together at the park before their ceremony takes place, usually so they can stay with their small group of guests after the ceremony and get straight into the celebrations.

Or you could jump on the City Cat and cruise along the river to Newstead, Howard Smith Wharves, the City or Southbank to a restaurant of your choice to continue the celebrations.
